The borders

From Spain you enter at the River Runer border, in Sant Julià de Lòria, at the end of the road from La Seu d'Urgell. From France, via Pas de la Casa.

Customs officers are always present at both crossings. When you leave Andorra, what you are carrying is checked: see how much tobacco, alcohol and shopping you can take with you in the customs guide.

Tolls and tunnels

  • Cadí tunnel (C-16, on the route from Barcelona): €14.56 per car in 2026.
  • Envalira tunnel (the way in from France): €8.10 per car and €4.80 per motorbike, according to its website. It saves you climbing the Envalira pass (2.409 m), which you can cross for free when it's open.
  • There are no other tolls inside Andorra.

In winter: tyres or snow chains

From 1 November to 15 May, winter or M+S tyres on all four wheels or, failing that, snow chains are compulsory on every road in Andorra, even when the road is clear.

When it snows, the police activate colour-coded phases: yellow (winter tyres or snow chains and under 60 km/h), orange (snow chains for vehicles over 3.5 t), red (snow chains for everyone and a maximum of 30 km/h) and black (road closed). Check the road conditions on mobilitat.ad before you set off.

From January 2027, Chalair will fly to Madrid, Palma and Paris-Orly, initially 2 times a week, with fares from €55 (Palma), €67 (Madrid) and €79 (Paris), according to the Andorran government.

A shuttle bus links the airport with Andorra la Vella at the time of each flight: book it on the Andbus website.

Can you get to Andorra by train?

There is no railway in Andorra. The nearest station is Andorre-L'Hospitalet, in France, on the Toulouse–Latour-de-Carol line (about 5 trains a day in each direction). From the station, the HIFE bus goes up to Andorra la Vella twice a day, via Pas de la Casa, Soldeu, Canillo and Encamp, timed to meet the trains.

From Paris there is an Intercités night train to Latour-de-Carol: check with SNCF whether it runs on your dates, as it changes with the season.

From Barcelona, the Rodalies R3 line reaches Puigcerdà and La Tor de Querol, but there is no scheduled bus from there to Andorra. The direct coach is the most practical option. You can also take the AVE high-speed train to Lleida and continue by coach (2 h 15 min, from €25).

What documents you need

Andorra is not in the European Union or the Schengen area, so you must carry a valid ID card or passport, children included. A minor travelling without their parents needs their authorisation.

If you are not from the EU and need a Schengen visa, it must be valid for at least two entries: you leave Schengen when you enter Andorra and enter it again when you leave.

The EU's new Entry/Exit System (EES) does not apply to EU citizens or Andorrans, and ETIAS is not yet in operation.

Getting around Andorra

The national bus network (bus.ad) links every parish: a single ticket costs €1.90, €3.45 or €4.80 depending on the zone. The Pas de la Casa route runs every 30 minutes, and there is a night bus at weekends.

Taxi: €3.20 initial charge and €1.40 per km by day (€1.65 at night and on public holidays), the official Govern rate. To park in Andorra la Vella and Escaldes, a public car park is a better bet than looking for a space on the street.
