Christmas season 2026-27
Things to do in Andorra at Christmas 2026
At Christmas, Andorra fills up with lights, markets and, if the weather plays along, snow: the Poblet de Nadal, Andorra la Vella's Christmas market, a visit to Father Christmas, the Santa Llúcia fairs, the Three Kings parade and the first weeks of the ski season. Here you'll find what to do in each parish, this season's dates with their official source, and the businesses in our directory where you can stay, eat and shop, with their reviews.
Christmas dates: how the 2025-26 season went
The comuns (parish councils) haven't published the Christmas 2026-27 programme yet (it usually comes out in mid-November). In the meantime, here are the dates from the 2025-26 season as a guide: the events come round every year on very similar dates. We'll update this page as soon as it's out.

The Christmas market: Andorra la Vella's Poblet de Nadal
The country's biggest Christmas market is the Poblet de Nadal ("little Christmas village"), in Plaça del Poble and the old town of Andorra la Vella: wooden stalls selling crafts, decorations, gifts and food, with shows and activities for children. It opens in late November, when the lights are switched on, and closes on 5 January, the eve of the Three Kings. You can wander round it freely.
From Plaça del Poble you can walk down to Avinguda Meritxell and carry on along Avinguda Carlemany into Escaldes-Engordany: it's the best stroll for seeing the lights and getting some shopping done on the way.
The other parishes hold their own fairs, smaller and with more local produce: the Santa Llúcia fairs in Encamp and Sant Julià de Lòria, over the Immaculate Conception bank holiday weekend, and Ordino's Christmas fair, in Plaça de la Closa.
- On December weekends the centre gets packed: leave the car in an indoor car park and get around on foot.
- Late afternoon is the best time to go: once the lights are on, the walk looks far better.
Where to see Father Christmas in Andorra
In the parish of Ordino you can visit Father Christmas's house from late November until a few days before Christmas. It's a pre-booked experience with limited places: the dates closest to the 24th sell out, so it's worth booking as soon as tickets go on sale.
On the afternoon of 24 December, Father Christmas makes his way through the streets of Andorra la Vella to Plaça del Poble, and other parishes, such as La Massana, also arrange a visit from him that day. The ski resorts publish their own Christmas programmes: check their websites if you're skiing over those days.
Christmas lights in Andorra
The lights are switched on in late November and early December, with each parish holding its own celebration: Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany switch theirs on together, Canillo holds Canillo Brilla, Encamp does it in the Parc de l'Ossa and La Massana puts on a switch-on everyone can take part in.
The most spectacular route is the shopping strip along Avinguda Meritxell and Avinguda Carlemany, between Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany, just a short walk from the Poblet de Nadal. Canillo also has a monumental nativity scene over the festive season.
Things to do in Andorra at Christmas with kids
As well as the Poblet de Nadal and the visit to Father Christmas, winter has something for every age: Naturlandia, the mountain park in Sant Julià de Lòria; the ice rink at the Palau de Gel in Canillo; and the indoor play centres, which are a lifesaver on bad-weather days.
When there's snow, the most popular choice is a first ski or snowboard lesson for children and the resorts' beginner areas. For families who fancy some warm water, Caldea, in Escaldes-Engordany, is the country's big thermal spa and leisure centre: check its website for the conditions for under-18s.

Skiing at Christmas
Andorra's ski resorts (Grandvalira, Pal Arinsal and Ordino Arcalís) usually open in late November or early December, depending on the snow, and Christmas is one of the busiest weeks of the season.
For those dates it's best to have everything booked: your lift pass, which you can buy online on each resort's website; lessons, because the ski schools fill their Christmas courses before anything else; and ski or snowboard hire, which many shops let you reserve in advance.

Christmas shopping in Andorra
Many visitors use Christmas as a chance to buy their presents in Andorra: the general sales tax (IGI) is 4.5%, and perfume, cosmetics, electronics, designer clothing and ski gear are the most popular buys. The shopping centres and big stores are concentrated along Avinguda Meritxell and Avinguda Carlemany, and in Pas de la Casa, right by the French border.
To go back into Spain or France without paying tax, your purchases must be for personal use and stay within the customs allowance (up to €900 per person in goods, with separate limits for tobacco and alcohol). And for the Christmas table and the tortell de Reis (the Catalan Three Kings' cake), head to the country's patisseries.

Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Eve
25 December (Christmas Day) and 26 December (St Stephen's Day, Sant Esteve) are public holidays in Andorra, as is 1 January: many shops close or open shorter hours, while restaurants in the tourist areas usually open with special set menus. On the night of the 24th, midnight mass is celebrated in the parish churches.
For dinner on Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve, book well ahead: the best-reviewed restaurants fill up weeks in advance. Once the clock strikes midnight, the party carries on in the pubs and clubs of Andorra la Vella, Escaldes-Engordany and Pas de la Casa.

The Three Kings parade in Andorra
On the afternoon of 5 January, the Three Kings make their way through Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany in a joint parade that sets off at around 6 pm from Avinguda Príncep Benlloch and ends in Plaça Coprínceps in Escaldes, with floats and sweets. Other parishes hold their own parade.
That afternoon some bus routes in the centre are suspended or diverted, and 6 January (Epiphany) is a public holiday in Andorra.
Where to stay in Andorra at Christmas
If you're coming for the market, the lights, the shopping or Caldea, the most convenient option is to stay in Andorra la Vella or Escaldes-Engordany: everything is within walking distance. If you're coming to ski, you're better off at the foot of the slopes or near a gondola: Soldeu, El Tarter, Canillo, Encamp or Pas de la Casa for Grandvalira; La Massana and Arinsal for Pal Arinsal; Ordino for Ordino Arcalís.
Christmas and New Year's Eve are among the most expensive dates of the year, with the least availability: book as early as you can. These are the best-rated hotels in each area, based on their reviews.

December weather and getting there
December is cold: at night temperatures easily drop below zero, in the valleys too, and it can snow at any time. Bring warm clothes, footwear suitable for snow and, for the car, snow chains or winter tyres: they're compulsory when there's snow.
From Spain you enter via La Seu d'Urgell, and from France via Pas de la Casa. If you're crossing the country towards France or heading for the Grandvalira slopes, the Envalira tunnel (a toll road) bypasses the top of the pass, which can close when it snows. Check the road conditions before you set off.
